Quality Assurance

CATTLECARE

One of our major quality assurance programs is CATTLECARE—a farm-based program developed by the cattle industry. CATTLECARE follows HACCP principles to avoid contamination problems.

The program's scope is very broad. To become accredited, cattle producers must follow a code of practice, which is documented and verified by independent auditors. CATTLECARE participants monitor and record the use of chemicals, ensure stock identification and traceback procedures are maintained, and follow animal welfare and veterinary treatment guidelines. Cattle ranchers must sign a National Vendor Declaration for verifying that the guidelines of CATTLECARE are met. Designed with knowledge of how animal welfare, stock handling and chemical use affect the safety and quality of meat, CATTLECARE is an excellent umbrella scheme.
